Alice had settled in for the night, her daughter tucked in. She started reading from her book when she heard the doorbell ring. She got up and put her book on the table next to her. She hurried down the stairs and to the door. she opened it up so a police officer standing on the stoop outside. She wrapped her arm around her, shielding herself from the cold.

"Can I help you officer?" Alice asked, she could see her breath in front of her.

"Are you Mrs. Liddell?" He asked, his voice shaky from the cold.

"I am," She nodded, "You had better come in, you'll catch your death out there." She gestured him through th door and into the parlor. She took a seat on the sofa and motioned for him to sit in a chair opposite her. Her stomach was in knots. She knew the police didn't just come to your house in the night for a social visit.

"Mrs. Liddell, you were engaged to Mr. Robert Harris, correct?" He asked, removing his hat. His expression was dark.

"Yes" She answered. Her eyes started to well up. She knew what was coming, he was dead, that's all there was to it. She bit down on her lip, awaiting his response.

"You fiance was found this morning in his office. He was already dead when we got there. We received a call from the downstairs neighbor that they heard a loud thud then nothing for at least two hours. When we arrived, we found Mr. Harris slumped over his dest.

"Oh god, no no no. This can't be" Alice began to cry,her body shook with her sobs. "How?" She choked out.

"It's unclear, but it seems he poisoned himself in hi-" Alice cut him of and stood up.

"No! He would never do that, there is no reason!" She was filled with a rage at the over the accusation that her fiance would commit suicide.

"Ma'am, he left this," He pulled an envelope from his coat. It hadn't been opened. The sea was her husbands. She took it in her hands, she was so scared to open it. She looked at the officer, who was putting his hat back on. "I best be going Mrs. Liddell. Please feel free to call us if you have any questions." He said and headed for the door. She let him out, the unopened letter still in her hand.

Alice sat back down on the couch. She opened the letter and unfolded it. As she read, her eyes were filled with tears. She finished the letter and set it on the table. She sobbed for several several minutes before finally heading back up to bed, her emotion ranging from rage to sadness. She would deal with this more in the morning, but right now, she needed to sleep, she need to go to Wonderland. She went back to her room, and went to bed. she never noticed that her daughter had awoken ad had heard most of the conversation.

She sneaked into parlor and picked up the note. It read that he was very upset and and that he could no longer go on being married to mad woman and having a bastard child. She began to sob quietly on the couch. It was at that moment she heard something from the next room. Her eyes till blurry, she went to see what it was. As she entered the hall, she saw her cat run off. She decided to give chase. She fallowed it into the basement. Once she reached a dark room down there ,she had lost the cat and tried to find her way out of the dark room. She felt around int the dark room. Finally she found a doorknob. She opened the door up and had to shield her eyes from the bright light. The door opened not into another room but instead into a beautiful valley where mushrooms the size chairs grew and a n odd assortment of insects fluttered through the breeze.

This was Wonderland, her mother's imaginary world. It was real.

Very interesting. I have a similar idea except Alice has a son named Alan (the real Alice had three sons and the first was named Alan). Don't know if I'll ever write it though. Looking forward to reading more.
